Thank you for putting this together, Eric. I consider myself fortunate to not have experienced, or recognize the experience of, racism by Japanese in Japan or in America. I can understand the Samurai's false interpretation of African people from their observation of the African slaves they were shown during their 1860 visit to America. By not being told why these people lived and behaved the way they did I can understand their their interpretations. These people were stolen from their home lands, stripped of their culture and self pride, dehumanized and severely punished it they attempted to read English or assimilate into "American society". When we get the whole story the picture and understanding is much clearer.

This ad is real, I know because it happened to me...... doesn't matter your race, few stay married to Japanese women. Casual dating is cool, but it gets old after a while screwing girl after girl. I left Japan because I was getting older and they were getting younger. Sex with these girls puts no money in your pocket, and you realize you just wasted a lot of your life and time.

I have to say that I found the comments on here very civil and informative. I am glad because I have come across blogs where the men blast western woman to hell while holding up asian women as superior.

Is it impossiable for an American woman to get into a relationship with a Japanese man? I've read blogs where they say that Japanese (well the whole world wide male population) have great disdain for American woman it would not look twice at us.

This makes me sad because I love other cultures and I'd hate to be looked down on and seen as a slut like the American women you see on Jerry Springer.

They did do something. They grounded the entire base for weeks! I am a spouse a s was also grounded. It sucked. I also heard the minor girl case was thrown out because she admitted she lied to him about her age. Not saying it was right either way but can you tell a 16 year old from an 18 year old. Honestly???

They both deserve what they did to that man and much more. Nothing condones the murder of any human being. I've personally known Cron for a very long time. Going through tech school and bring stationed with him prior to him going to Japan and I must say I am completely shocked over this. It's horrifying to know someone as a very religious loving person who wud give you the shirt off his back turned cold blooded murderer. I have spent plenty of time with this man and I couldn't imagine for the life of me how he could be capable of such a heinous crime. Lives are ruined over a weak minded woman who didn't have the courage to just leave her husband. I hope they both think long and hard about what they have done and I hope they suffer with the guilt and it drives them insane to have their freedom taken away from them. So sad. And to Nick, although you may never read this. You are a shame to humanity and the United States Air Force. You deserve to rot in hell. God will punish you far worse than what the court marshal will do

In contrast to most articles about marriage in Japan, this article was well-thought-out.

I think the main points someone who wants to know about Japanese marriages is:
what are the relations between Japanese men and women like and what are the expectations of Japanese people in general.

The article doesn't really get to the meat of the matter in terms of spelling out these relationships and expectations.

Put simply: Men are meal tickets and women are mother substitutes/sex toys. Japan has a curious twist on the madonna / whore phenomenon. Boys and girls are taught to view the opposite sex as a different species from very early on. Many boys are "Momma's boys" in the sense that they are conditioned to be emotionally dependant on their mothers and wives. Women, on the other hand are free lance merceneries. I know this sounds really cynical and flies in the face of your neatly compiled numbers. "Women want men with the three 'highs': education, income and physical height."

Let me explain. As a conversation teacher, I listened to housewives reveal their aspirations and frustrations for two years in Kyoto and Nagoya. After that I spent 12 years teaching undergrad, graduate and continuing ed courses mostly to women. And
I've been married for 10 years and I've seen the extended family situation, both mine
and that of my 50+ colleagues. So I consider my anecdotal data pretty substantial.

Men are conditioned to "succeed" by giving their "all" to the company. By contrast,
women only have to bear children. Let's look at the suicide statistics of men and
"death by overwork". The violence that men do to themselves far outweighs any
romantic notion of female liberation.

Ask any middle class woman what her job is. Nine tenths will say "housewife", which
means feasting on cakes and shopping. Ask them about their plans to have a career.
you'll be lucky if they don't tear you apart. Most women are only qualified to do housekeeping. So when middle income wives do look for a job, they end up cleaning
toilets in hotels.

So what exactly do your statistics mean? HMMMM?

Thank you,thank you----you said it/hit the nail on the damn head with your observations---I don't like when people say, "Oh, you have a thing for Mexican guys or brothers (black men) or Asian guys," as if they're some kind of fad you're only into because it's the cool thing to be doing. People need to approach each other as PEOPLE, not as some weird object from another culture that you assume is going to be/act a certain way just because they ARE from that particular culture. Hell, Japanese women are HUMAN, too, not just some cute little creatures designed for American men to take home, show off, and made to serve them and feed their big fat dang egos. If a man's only approaching a woman from a particular culture because he automatically believes she's gonna be submissive to him, that's pretty messed up, because that stereotype probably has NOTHING to do with who she is as a real person in the first place!

Second of all, BLACK PEOPLE started the civil rights movement to fight for their OWN damn rights---they were NOT sitting around waiting for white people to do a damn thing for them. Yes, it was white people who passed the civil rights laws, but that was only BECAUSE it was BLACK people who took on the battles and raised hell and fought the racist system that kept its foot on their necks and backs for nearly 400 years,and then they took the fight straight to the White House in the 1960's! How dare you sit there and claim that white people did everything for black folks and that we didn't do nothing to get it for ourselves. Did you even READ the article? What the Rev. said wasn't racist at all OR race baiting---he simply re-worded and updated an old saying (which you obviously didn't read, it's IN the article and said article EXPLAINS the history of the poem and why he said it in the first place. Racism has been and continues to be a daily reality for black people & other folks of color---white people have been racist as hell against everybody that isn't white since this country started, and when it gets thrown back in your face, you can't handle it because YOU'RE NEVER had to deal with it in in the first damn place!

Keep in mind, this man has been a civil rights fighter for decades and he grew up during an era when it was the NORM for white people to discriminate and even lynch black people and get AWAY with it, as well as segregation. The problem is that there is a complete ignorance of African-American history beyond Dr. King and Rosa Parks amongst whites like yourself, as well as a lack of understanding about how whites are privileged simply because they are the majority, and how the system has ALWAYS been set to benefit them & THEM only. That's institutionalized racism,dear. That's why y'all get bent out of shape whenever a black person points that out, because y'all don't want to hear anything that challenges your idea that America is the most perfect country in the world.
